Contrarian take on death

Issue #158

We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War’s a spiritual war.

πŸͺ¦ Contrarian take on death. It appears that ruminating on death is becoming popular, slipping into the mainstream. Memento mori (Latin for "remember that you die") is a commonplace tattoo; the Stoics loved to talk about death; the fear-based Christian ethic can be found nearly everywhere in Western society; there is even a popular app that reminds you five times a day that you are going to die. Ok, we get it. Is this helping anyone? Is the constant thought of death encouraging us to capital-L Live, or is it replacing love with fear? 🍎 Andrew's Take. I will be the first to admit that people are strange creatures and the things that many tell themselves on a daily basis to merely get through the day is probably not a beautiful movie any of us want to watch. Do what you need. BUT. If you have the capacity (we all do btw) to entertain an alternative viewpoint, let it be this: Stop thinking about death and start pursuing life. An absolute love for being alive. A joie de vivre! Death is gonna knock whenever He is ready and there will be no forewarning, no calendar invite. Just a knock, then whatever comes next. The "rational" or "humble" obsession with death as of late is off-putting to say the least. Not to mention - a snooze! The pursuit of life, armed with all of your quirks and defects and laserlike eye contact. Life or Death β€” which dude is having more fun?

🀸 Full body stretch. Every day before bed and/or upon waking, hold the following stretches for 20-30 seconds. (1) Deep full squat (2) Standing spine backbend (3) Standing pike aka touch your toes (4) Kneeling lunge (5) Rear hand clasp behind back (6) Butterfly seated (7) Lying twist on each side. Keep your butt tight during all of these (something taught when you go to a good yoga school). Discomfort is expected at first, but not pain; if you feel pain, ease off. Breathe, brother! 🍎 Andrew's Take. The good news about stretching is that it is never too late to become more flexible and more mobile. Aging and lack of movement create brittle humans, so we must actively fight this decline. The bad news is that it can get bad pretty fast if you are not consistent in your movement and the stretches mentioned above. Throw on your favorite album or podcast for ten minutes while you do these before bed.

πŸ•ŠοΈ Tweet of the Day. My guess is that 80/20 applies here. If 80% of your info diet is trash, you will be 20% happy. However, if only 20% of your info diet is trash, you will be 80% happy. CNN mandated on all airport TVs is a disgusting crime against humanity. Sesame Street reruns, Ren & Stimpy, public access television... we will take anything. How do you know if information is nutritious? In the same way you know organic blueberries are nutritious, you can taste it.
