A really dad dose

Issue #133

Humans don’t mind hardship, in fact they thrive on it; what they mind is not feeling necessary. Modern society has perfected the art of making people not feel necessary.

Good morning 🦁 This is Andrew's Apples, the 2-min health email that toes the NSFW line. Let's go.

  • 🌿 Bangkok for your bud. Thailand has historically been pretty tough on drugs (buzzkiller); but they decriminalized marijuana last month. Public use is now rising in its major cities, like Bangkok. You can find bud for sale in markets, on the beach, and at hotel receptions. "Very good for tourists" lololol.

    • 🍎 Andrew's Take. Good for the economy? Sure. Categorically good for Thai society? Eh. Stoner types love to scream from the mountaintops about weed's 'magical' abilities to cure all of civilization's ills. Dude, getting higher than a kite so you can sleep like a corpse for fifteen hours is not solving anything. Taking the edge off? I get that. My gut says that most chronic pot smokers would be way better off with clean nicotine than with "god's herb" that monster glues them to a chair.

  • ⏲️ Just 30 minutes. Holistic health coach and author Paul Chek says in his Big Bang Workouts that short, intense 30-40 minute workouts are way more effective at stimulating natural growth hormone and testosterone release than the typical hour-plus lollygag session at the gym.

    • 🍎 Andrew's Take. You do not need to go "hang out" at the gym. Wild how many folks will just set aside two hours at the gym with roughly no plan outside the first 30 minutes. Guys, go home. See your wife, your life, your dog.

  • πŸ‘¨ A dad dosing. My friend's dad is a pharmacist from yesteryear, a time when professionals actually considered more natural cures than just pills. To this day, he still claims that if you are feeling off, first have a tall glass of water. Then do 10 push-ups. If you still feel uneven after that, go for a walk. As a final measure, try reframing your situation: go from this sucks to what can I learn from this pain?

    • 🍎 Andrew's Take. Basically, start with the physical body in those 3 ways, then, if struggle remains, a simple reframe can do wonders. Another dad-ism that always sticks with me: sleep it off. Sometimes you just need a night of rest to reset a negative thinking pattern.

  • πŸ•ŠοΈ Tweet of the Day. In cards, you always have a hand. Your emotions are like hands that can be played. But to win you have to play them - can't just fold each time. Endless obsession with Wim Hof breathing and/or long meditation "sessions" is akin to holding your cards for a long time, studying them, only to fold them. YOU GOTSTA PLAY!
