Eating in the recession
Issue #169
Our bodies respond to belief and lifestyle.
GMπ¦ Hey there people. This is Andrew's Apples, the 2-min health email for those who once thought Subway was the paragon of health in America and spokesman Jared a patron saint. Ok, letβs rip it.
π₯ Organics prove to be unfuckwittable! Organic food sales had a record year in 2022, growing 4.3% y/y to $60 billion. This happened despite food inflation being at a 40-year high. Produce (fruits & veggies) led the categories in sales, followed by beverages, dairy, and eggs. πAndrew's Take. Rich people are doubling down on health and sustainability in this downturn, which is a good (if not sad) thing as price-conscious folks inevitably ape the habits of the wealthy. When it seems like all financial asset classes are going sideways at best, solid nutrition has high ROI regardless of what buttons President Powell pushes. Quality food remains the safest all-weather bet.
ποΈ Tweet of the Day. Every time I sit down for several minutes straight, I think two things. One: gee whiz, I am getting tired. Two: what would on-their-feet workers in Taiwan/Singapore/Korea/Japan think of me right now? (America = siesta culture). Then, I get out of the chair. Ten toes down.

How about them Apples? Hit me with any comments or questions.
