• 👑 Uncrown Juul. The e-cigarette giant will pay almost $500 million in lawsuits over their marketing to kids. They presented in schools, bought ads on Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon (lol), and offered irresistibly FRUITY flavors to its consumer demo. Half a billi in fines might just tank the company, but we'll see. Juul now plays second banana to Vuse in terms of e-cig market share.

  • 🍎 Andrew's Take. Business is business and people in this country can choose whatever they want. What I'll say is that, similar to long-covid adverse health effects remaining unknown, we do NOT know what the long-term effects of e-cigs will be. My guess is that we will be surprised (in years, not decades) how bad it is for us. Nicotine as a chemical and smoking as a ritual has been around for millennia; electronic puff bars have not.

• 💀 Everyone's gonna die (sooner). In 2019, if someone asked an American when they were going to die, they'd say at 79 years I'll pack my bags. A recent report found that, in 2022, the average life expectancy is just 76, three years under where it was. Why? Sure, some C19 is to blame, but researchers think most of the drop is due to obesity (42% as of March 2020), diabetes, shitty health care, eating Chips Ahoy, and guns.

  • 🍎 Andrew's Take. Hate to be the oracle in the room but these numbers are going to get worse before they rebound. It's wild to know if that you drink two liters of water a day, you're already in the 99th percentile of health in this country. Not a shocker though: my university had a Panda Express in the Union and The Biggest Loser was a tv program American showrunners actually greenlit (and it smashed).
