Where's our food going?

GM🦁 Sorry for the hiatus, folks. This is Andrew's Apples, the 2-min health email built for those who laugh when a man knowingly squeezes your hand too hard. Ok, let’s go.

🥕 Organix! Less than 1% of the two million farms in the US is certified organic. The rest is sprayed with chemicals that oftentimes require the sprayer himself to wear a hazmat suit due to the ease of contamination. Then we eat the sprayed food. Nearly all of us do. The genetic engineering in our food supply started in the 1960s with the purported (and well-marketed) aim of “feeding the planet.” We have plenty of food today, so, in a way, we succeeded. The problem is that organic food comprises a mere ~5% of all food on the planet, and every country that has adopted the American way of farming and eating has too adopted our propensity for disease. 🍎Andrew's Take. In more recent news that should surprise no one, Bill Gates is the largest owner of private farmland. Why? Money, obviously. Go deeper. What is the most profitable type of assets? Code and intellectual property. If someone can explain to me how and why a billionaire would want to patent health-promoting biodynamically and organically grown food, my DMs are wide open. Business is business and the economy is structured to be “winner take most,” but we are talking about man’s oldest tradition: eating. One of the few rights that should not be played with.

🕊️ Tweet of the Day. In 1939, Weston A. Price wrote in his seminal book about how all sorts of physical degeneration (including dental cavities and the shifting of teeth) were the result of modern farming practices, not a foregone conclusion. Like most, I got my wisdom teeth yanked out years back and sometimes I wonder if they were meant to stay put.
