Sunscreen, cancer included

Issue #146

Math and maps are universal, and transcend culture. They’re practical.

GM 🦁 This is Andrew's Apples, the 2-min health email that marries the health nut with the health agnostic. Let's go.

  • πŸ₯« Yeah?! Label this! Nutrition activists just asked the US FDA (Food and Drug Administration) to require front-of-package labeling that consumers can more easily understand. They argue that current food packaging too often disguises sugar and fat content, which is partly responsible for our countrywide health epidemic.

    • 🍎 Andrew's Take. Half of US adults are obese, and thus changes like this need to be at least considered. A country of beached whales needs a violent push back into the ocean to learn to swim - not sink - once again.

  • 🧴 Sunscreen, cancer included. Banana Boat Hair and Scalp Sunscreen Spray was just recalled after testing positive for benzene, a known human carcinogen and top 20 chemical in the US. The product, per the FDA, has an "unacceptable toxicity".

    • 🍎 Andrew's Take. At this point it is safe to assume that most commercial sunscreens are shit. There are too many cheap chemicals packed into these products that the FDA is too busy to concern itself with. Instead, take an astaxanthin supplement (internal sunscreen), wear clothes when appropriate, and find a good sunscreen here.

  • πŸ•ŠοΈ Tweet of the Day. Not buying or selling here, but: hmm.
