💊 Anti-obesity drug addict. Who ever said miracle drugs don't exist? This is big, IF true: drug-maker Eli Lilly has a new obesity drug in the mix. Background: acc. to the CDC, US obesity rates rose from 30% in 2000 to 42% in 2018 (and bet my @$$ they're getting worse) AND the annual medical cost of obesity in this country is currently $147 billion. How the drug (tirzepatide) works/worked: one shot a week, which suppresses appetite and boosts energy; the trial included 2,500 BIIIG adults, of which the low-dosers lost ~15% of body weight (35 pounds) while high-dosers lost 21% (50 pounds). Lots of questions remain, like idk, side effects?! Lol! Aging will ALWAYS be the mother of all diseases, but obesity is in a close second. I'm skeptical but so many people are in such immense pain that my mind stays open wide.
🥣 The Big Breakfast Battles. Kellogg's, part of the "FAANG" of cereal giants, is challenging anti-obesity food rules from the UK gov. Their claim: most people eat the nutrient-free cereal w/ milk, which is healthy. Lots to unpack here but the TLDR is that dry cereal 99% of the time is junk and skim/low-fat milks, too, are junk (packed with sugar and devoid of good dairy fat to soften the sugar blow). I seldom agree with centralized gov when it comes to nutrition, but the UK has this one right. Tony the Tiger will just have to eat this one. The kids (esp. in the UK and US) are NOT alright.
👄 He's gone Menthol! In a ban that would take place in 2024, the US FDA proposed a ban on menthol cigarettes. But it tastes so good, so fresh!!!! Exactly the point: the minty flavor masks the harshness, rendering it palatable to kids (see Anon quote at top of this email). Fact: +33% of annual US cigarettes sales are menthols. Kids, let alone grown adults smh, should not be waking up and reaching for their little sleek ripcopter... just to blunt the mundane realities of life itself. Boomer shit, I know. Stare at a lava lamp instead.
