Do the kids cook?

Issue #148

Teachers do one half, bullies do the other. And learning how to deal with bullies is the half you’ll actually use as a grownup.

πŸ”ͺ Ultra-processed food.  New research out of Public Health Nutrition has found a link between anxiety/depression and high intake of junk food (namely, sweet drinks, reconstituted meat products, and packaged snacks). Plus: β€œMore than 70 percent of packaged foods in the U.S. are classified as ultra-processed food and represent about 60 percent of all calories consumed by Americans." Nothing too new, but fresh research continues to build the case against fake food.

  • 🍎 Andrew's Take. The huge caveat here is that if you are eating SUPER clean but are miserable, your health will suffer. The fuck-it energy is very useful at times. E.g. having a cigarette outside at a warehouse show which leads to you meeting your new best friend. The anal psycho that says "ew cigarettes!!" most likely will meet less people, period.

🍦 Do the kids cook?  In observing where things are going, soon enough nobody will cook. The canceling of home economics classes (learning basic cooking skills), the advancement of frozen meals (convenience), two-parent working families (economic realities), Uber/carryout (laziness), and dining out (more fun/laziness) - all of these have contributed to gen y and z to write off any current or future need to cook. Who has the time?

  • 🍎 Andrew's Take.  There is a good show on Netflix that entertainingly covers the basics to wonderful balanced cooking. If the Book is dead in the eyes of the young, the tv show is a good bet for the distracted cow-eyed generation.

πŸ•ŠοΈ Tweet of the Day. Experiment: sneak into any overweight person's fridge and observe its contents. Guarantee it's packed with candy-in-disguise, not meat. Then check a fit person's fridge: 90% whole foods that have no loooong "ingredient deck."
