Good morning π¦ Today marks the 100th issue of Andrew's Apples. Just wanna say thanks for sticking around. I am really grateful to have you here. I try to deliver good content that my grandkids will look at it and be like, "aight, papa ain't that bad! he bald but he bad!!" Now let's get it!
πͺ Professional sitting championships. Research shows that sitting for prolonged periods of time makes you age faster. Keep it under ~3 hours a day. Just walk outside in the sun for so long, in the middle of your WFH day, that your chair misses you.
π Andrew's Take. You ever just look at someone and think, man that person sits a lot. And that's it - that's all you think about them, before going back to your phone. Alternatively, you ever look at someone and go, man that person drinks water, has sex, never in a rush, has a heart as big as a house, and affectionately calls old people "crabs"? Cuz I have. You know what to do. I mean it this time.
π Too busy to work. Bee populations, namely in Canada and California, are declining to 40y record lows. "Bees are key to food production and help pollinate crops for tomatoes, berries and other foods." A good little elementary school refresher, for my money: bees spread pollen from one flowering plant to another, allowing the plants to reproduce and bear all sorts of delicious foods we adore. They're calling it a pollination crisis. As if inflation wasn't enough - it could get even rougher in short order. Some causes: parasite contagions, extreme weather (this April and May were some of the hottest months ever), and transporting bees on trucks which is unnatural.
π Andrew's Take. Food prices for so many reasons will remain elevated. To the extent you should, plan accordingly. This shit sucks for everyone. The only thing truly "transitory" was the prevailing 'ironclad' opinion of the Fed/Current Admin. Do your own research, gang. And support local organic/biodynamic farmers and the cute little bees that keep their businesses afloat.
β²οΈ Not so fast. Fasting (aka time-restricted eating, typically ~16 hours straight of not eating in one day) is good for weight loss. But it's equally 'good' for muscle loss. How? Well, when one goes 3+ hours without food, the body starts to break down muscle to transport amino acids to vital tissues/organs. Losing muscle not only makes you physically weaker with poorer body comp, but crucially it makes it harder to burn fat. You see, there is a positive correlation with muscle mass and ability to burn fat. One way to fight this, if you are fasting, is to take amino acids and/or eat protein-rich foods (i.e. not a whole sleeve of Pringle's or a lukewarm yard of beer).
π Andrew's Take. Fasting is another one of those ancient tricks that by and large works for everyone. If weight loss "calories in < calories out" then fasting makes it more likely that via exercising/using bathroom, your calories out will exceed your food intake. A useful tip is to chew your food slowly, so when you finally break your fast at, say, 12/1pm you aren't devouring food like a warthog. Another tip: chew your gum.
ποΈ Tweet of the Day. The meatstix who can't run a mile w/o an O2 tank love to hate on cardio. What's the point of being strong if you can't outrun something stronger than you? The protein-only protestants are so carb-deficient that their brain (trapped inside that relatively small grapefruit head) literally doesn't work. Braindead.

How about them Apples? Hit me with any comments or questions. xoxo
Your friend,
Andrewπ
