Got sugar for brains

Issue #091

Hey! Keep it movin'!  Traffic controller at LGA airport in NYC

Good morning 🦁 This is Andrew's Apples, the health email that's nutritious like spinach but tastes like Fun Dip. Gimme 2 min. Let's go.

  1. 🍦 Got sugar for brains. Your body recognizes sugar as a drug. Period. Overconsumption of sugar is increasingly being linked to brain-related health issues such as depression, learning disorders, memory problems and overeating. What to eat to best manage sugar consumption: "avocado, coconut oil, free-range eggs, organic butter from raw milk, raw nuts like macadamia and pecans, (unheated) virgin olive oil and wild Alaskan salmon." And drink clean, pure water. Lots of it.

    1. 🍎 Andrew's Take: "I have a sweet tooth!" is a bald-faced lie, told by millions every year lolol. You're a drug addict and your teeth are literally falling out of your head. I am sorry. Take it up with the Creator upstairs.

  2. 🍸 Adult binge drinking rising. Recent research out of National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism shows a good many adults over 30 are binge drinkers, and the problem is on the rise, namely w women and adults over 65. Binge drinking is defined as 5+ drinks in a row or within a short period of time. Meanwhile, pre-teens, teens, and young adults are binge drinking less (lots of reasons for this).

    1. 🍎 Andrew's Take: Times are tough and tricky right now, but fight to not become a statistic. Your entire friend group drinks like a fish? Ask why that is. What is missing? 2 or 3 drinkies is one thing... getting slammed regularly as a 30+ year old is, among many things, sad. Sadder than the fact that every highway exit in the US has fast food and vile gas station bathrooms. This is not puritanical talk - drink! be merry! live! f*ck! - but there is a line and crossing that line probably feels like a never-ending splitting headache.

  3. 😴 Your sleep is sus. Aside from shooting for 7-9 hours a night and dialing in a consistent lights off/on schedule, you should be taking some light supplements. A good PM multivitamin (vitamins D, C, B12, magnesium, potassium, calcium), sublingual melatonin spray, and some hippie solutions (CBD oil, Valerian root, chamomile) is a great playbook. Melatonin and hippie stuff better for short-term assistance, but locking in vitamins/minerals are crucial over a longer timeline.

    1. 🍎 Andrew's Take: It never made sense to me that a person would take so seriously their work and social lives and yet sleep like a village idiot (tv on, hot room, no eye mask, lying on their belly, pounding water before bed). Ball out on a good mattress and cop some nice sheets. It's your dojo where the dark sleeping arts are practiced.

  4. 🕊️ Tweet of the Day. Unless they think the new Drake album is good. Smh.

Your friend,

Andrew🍎
